Details of the Mendocino Magic Endurance Ride Camping: Ranch gate will be unlocked at 10 am on Thursday, August 18th and will remain open until 12 noon on Monday, August 22nd. We encourage all riders to spend the night after the ride. There are many things to do in this area, so make a vacation of it. Please visit www.fortbragg.com for a listing of Fort Bragg specific events, or www.mendocinocoast.com for events in Fort Bragg, Mendocino and beyond. Bring the family, spend the weekend celebrating! The pond will be open for swimming, although there is NO LIFEGUARD, and you swim at your own risk. We will also have a hiking trail open to some gnarly, old redwoods, for those who aren’t riding to enjoy some scenery. There will be ample horse water in camp, but please bring your own human water. We will have several outhouses at base camp, as well as at the vet check. Dogs are welcome in camp, on a leash. Please pick up after your dog. No dogs are allowed on trails. No dogs at the vet check. No four wheelers. Bicycles allowed! No smoking is allowed on the trails, and no fires or open flames in camp as this is a high fire danger area. Awards: Each rider completing any of the ride distances will receive a completion award. There will be awards for first place and best conditioned horse of each of the 50s and the 75 mile ride. There will be additional awards for Top Ten in the 50s and 75, Top Junior in the 50s and 75 and other various awards. As you know, we give away a lot of loot! A “Pissin’ and Moanin’ Award” will be presented to anyone who exhibits that type of behavior. Fees: See entry form Refunds: Full refunds will be given for cancellations prior to August 15th. Please submit your cancellation in writing to one of our e-mail addresses. After August 15th, a $ 35.00 fee per day will be retained. Trail: Those of you who participated in the events of the 2004 World Championship Ride & Tie, managed by Lari Shea and Harvey Hoechstetter, will have ridden on some of the trails we are using this year. Base camp is on Lari and Harvey’s private 360 acre ranch overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The views are so spectacular, you may never want to leave camp. But do, because trails will take you past majestic virgin redwoods, across vast cattle ranches, and through crystal clear rivers. The course takes you on old (and new) logging roads, single track trails, and through some rocky creek beds, with some challenging hills. Hoof protection is required. There will be plenty of water, in creeks, troughs and open springs. The vistas are unsurpassed. You will want to ride slowly just to take in all of the magnificent scenery! This ride would not be possible without the permission and support from private landowners, including the Shea and Hoechstetter Families, Campbell Hawthorne Timber Management, the Parker Family, the Jackson – Grube Family, Faye Olson, and Mike Maguire. We are lucky to have this land to ride on and know you will treat it respectfully. Crew: The out vet check is in a large, open meadow with a gorgeous grove of virgin redwoods, and is accessible by road. Crew is welcome, but vehicles are limited at the vet check, and carpooling will be required. Please have your crews plan to share a ride to the vet check. Meals: Please join us for "Happy Hour" on Friday night before the ride meeting from 5:30 until 7:00 pm. We'll supply the wine. We ask that you bring some chips and dips to share. Dinner is included in your entry fee for Saturday and Sunday nights. Additional dinner tickets are $ 25.00. Due to the logistics of the ride, extra dinner tickets MUST be purchased in advance. There will not be any extra dinner tickets available for sale at the ride. We will also be providing delicious sandwiches, cookies, candy, fruit, snacks and beverages at the lunch vet checks for riders, vets and volunteers. We respectfully ask that crew provide their own lunch, ensuring that snacks and beverages will be available for all riders as they come through the vet check.
